For those who haven’t checked The Other Place: Jane is pregnant.
You’ve got to love American social networking sites. Plaxo thinks that it’s my Mum’s birthday tomorrow, as I got this email from them:
Rosalie J. Saunders’s birthday is tomorrow ( Apr. 8 )
No! Mum’s next birthday is 04/08/08, which in UK-speak equates to 4th August, not 8th April which it is in USA-speak.
Jane is ill, in bed. Full of the cold, wheezing, coughing and generally feeling rather under the weather and miserable.
Perhaps not the best thing to be advertising on my blog during Lent but the kind folks of Saunders Chocolates in Penrith, Cumbria sent me this kind email:
Hi Gareth,
Thought you might like to visit www.saunderschocolates.co.uk
Apparently the lovely Jane went to visit them a couple of years ago, on her way back from a conference in [...]
Last night Jane and I were at her parents’ wedding anniversary party. I was chatting with Jane’s cousin Andrew.
Gareth: You’re a doctor, aren’t you.
Andrew: Yeah.
Gareth: If you were to eat an apple a day, would you have some kind of existential crisis?
Today is my cousin, Alan’s birthday. It’s also my second girlfriend, Margaret-Jane’s birthday too.
Don’t tell Jane, though she doesn’t even know I’ve got a first girlfriend

Jane: Oh no! What are you going to do once you’ve finished them?
Gareth: I’ll probably just go to bed.
Do you remember that kids’ game from the 1970s: buckaroo?
Well I’ve just discovered that you can also play it on the sofa at home.
With your wife (sleeping or awake) and every single remote control that you can find lying around, e.g. TV, video, DVD player, digibox.
And why stop at remote controls? Cordless phones, mobile phones, [...]
Today is my sister Jenni’s birthday
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday to you,
Happy Birthday dear Jenni,
Happy Birthday to you!
We are now the same age for the next five days.
Jane: What do you want to do tonight?
Gareth: Erm … rock climbing!
Jane just looked at me funny.
About half an hour later.
Gareth: What do you want to do tonight?
Jane: Dunno. What do you want to do?
Gareth: Do you fancy a game of Computer Battleships?
Jane: [laughing] NO! … is that what you want to do?
Gareth: … no.
I [...]
